⎯ WHAT WE OFFER

Our clinical services

Each service can be used on its own or combined — your treatment plan is built around what makes the most sense for you.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture uses very thin, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body to stimulate the nervous system, reduce inflammation, and support the body's natural healing processes. It has a strong evidence base for pain, stress, hormonal health, and a range of other conditions. We tailor every session to your symptoms and goals — drawing on traditional East Asian approaches alongside orthopedic, neuromuscular, and trigger point techniques, scalp and auricular acupuncture, cosmetic acupuncture, scar therapy, and electrical stimulation as appropriate.

Myofascial Therapy

Myofascial therapy treats soft-tissue pain and restricted movement at the source — muscles, tendons, and fascial tissue. Sessions may include tuina (therapeutic massage), cupping, gua sha, trigger point release, and corrective exercise guidance depending on what your body needs. It pairs naturally with acupuncture and is often integrated into the same visit, but can also be used as a standalone treatment for musculoskeletal complaints.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine is prescribed here as a targeted clinical therapy — not off-the-shelf supplements. Formulas are selected and modified based on your full health history, current symptoms, and lab findings, then monitored over time for response, tolerability, and safety. We work within East Asian herbal traditions while staying current on herb-drug interactions and contraindications, and we'll coordinate with your other providers when relevant.

Functional Medicine

Functional medicine is a root-cause approach that looks beyond symptoms to understand why they're happening — investigating underlying drivers like hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiencies, gut dysfunction, chronic inflammation, and metabolic disruption through detailed intake, targeted lab work, and ongoing monitoring. Care is built around your individual biology and history, and may include dietary and lifestyle guidance, evidence-based supplementation (including honest guidance on what's worth taking and what isn't), and coordination with your other providers. At Meaningful Clinic, functional medicine is integrated alongside acupuncture and herbal medicine from the start — not offered in isolation.

⎯ HOW WE WORK

Care built around you

Health care is rarely one-size-fits-all. Your body is multifaceted, and different concerns often call for different tools.

We take the time to understand your full picture before recommending anything — your history, your goals, and what you've already tried.

We practice integrative East Asian medicine alongside evidence-based clinical thinking. That means we draw on tradition where it's useful, question it where the evidence may be thin, and collaborate openly with your other providers.

Every patient is treated with consent-based, trauma-aware care — with non-assumptive language about bodies, gender, and health history. You don't need to explain yourself before feeling safe here.

What you can expect

  • A thorough intake. Your first visit includes time to understand your full health history, not just your chief complaint.

  • An honest treatment plan. We'll tell you what we expect to help with, realistic timelines, and when referral makes more sense.

  • Coordinated care. We work alongside your primary care provider, OB/GYN, or specialist — not in isolation from them.

  • No pressure. We'll never upsell you on services you don't need or packages that don't fit your situation.

  • Lab review & ordering. When clinically indicated, we review your existing labs or recommend targeted bloodwork to inform and track your treatment. Billed separately.

  • Lifestyle guidance. Sleep, stress, movement, and nutrition recommendations are woven into every treatment plan — not an add-on.

  • Affirming, respectful language. All patients are welcomed — LGBTQ+ affirming and trauma-informed in every visit.

“There are only a handful of healthcare providers I can genuinely say have changed my life for the better—Dr. Bustillo is one of them. From the very first visit, he made me feel like family. I came into acupuncture with a degree of skepticism about how much it could help me, but Dr. Bustillo taught me patience and how to begin trusting my body again. Not only did he heal my physical symptoms, but he was also incredibly intuitive and responsive to my emotional well-being.”

Dr. Bustillo is exceptional and is so talented, I’m so grateful he’s shared his gifts and expertise with me through Baylor Scott & White’s integrated medicine division over the past 5+ years. There are few people in the world like Dr. Bustillo who are knowledgeable and compassionate to such an extraordinary degree - thank you for your years of service in Austin!

Anyone who finds themselves lucky enough to call Dr. Bustillo their doctor knows that he is the absolute best at what he does in so many ways! I came to him first for shoulder pain, and then for help with fertility needs. He is attentive, caring, kind and always made me feel like I was in the best hands for the care I needed at the moment. He is a gem of a person - as both an acupuncturist and a human being.

I came to Dr. Bustillo after experiencing pain in my lower back for years. After one session I was able to stand straight. After six sessions I was able to travel out of the country walk for miles and never experienced any problems. Later in the year I was told I needed to have surgery for a torn rotator cuff. I went to see Dr. Bustillo again and have not need to have surgery. I would recommend him without hesitation as one of the finest human beings I have ever met as well as a skilled and talented doctor in the field of acupuncture and wellness. He is leaving the Austin Area and if necessary I will travel to wherever he is. He is just that good.
